World Breastfeeding Trend Initiative (Hong Kong) 2008
On 7 February 2009 (Saturday), BFHIHKA organized a Press Conference “Let’s Support Breastfeeding – The Best Means of Avoiding Mishaps of Breastmilk Substitutes”
at the UNICEF Youth Information Centre. The objective of this
Press Conference was to announce the Hong Kong findings of the World
Breastfeeding Trend Initiatvie (WBTi) study conducted in late 2008. The
study was also supported by Consumer Council. In the Press
Conference, our Chairman, Dr. Patricia Ip presented the findings and
recommendations of the study. Then, our Treasurer, Ms. Christine Lam,
Dr. Cheung Suet Ling, Senior Medical Officer of Department of Health
and Ms. Vivian Leung, Founder Chairperson of Hong Kong Breastfeeding
Mothers Association shared with us the breastfeeding support in the
field of health care, Maternal and Child Health Centre and the
community. Besides, we invited Stella, a breastfeeding mother to share
with us the hindrances encountered in hospitals, family and public
places. WBTi
is developed by International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) Asia to
assess the implementation of the WHO Global Strategy for Infant and
Young Child Feeding. Currently over 50 countries are participating in
the project with more expected in the year 2009. The information
collected will be the largest global database on policies and
programmes for supporting breastfeeding. The assessment assists in the
identification of gaps and the recommendation of improvement measures.
When the exercise is repeated in a few years, the trend and progress
made will also be apparent. For more information about the World Breastfeeding Trend Initiative (Hong Kong) 2008 , please download through the links below:
